Phyllis Diller, b. 1917

The holiday season brings all sorts of gatherings and parties. From casual open houses to formal company dinners, it’s an opportunity to leave the oversized bags with their oversized worries at home. Instead opt for something lux and petite that pairs with gowns as easily as jeans.

“Fashion is just a touch of the marvelous.”
Christian Dior, 1905 – 1957

Happy November 5, the Day after Elections! Political phone calls and junk mail will cease and that’s a win for everyone. Personal opinions and shopping scandals aside, the campaign season gave us the pleasure of seeing four grown up women portray American sportswear and define femininity their own way.

Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama Tall and lean, she opted mostly for shift dresses and added interest with belts or jewelry. And, she proved that kitten heels and flats are just as chic as stilettos.

Cindy McCain

Being blond and fair, the standard selection would have been pastels. Instead, she opted for bright, attention grabbing colors in slim silhouettes so as not to overwhelm her frame.

Jill Biden

Jill Biden She choose hip length jackets with pants that made her look leggy. Skirt suits with zip front jackets kept her style polished and casual at dressier events.

Sarah Palin

Strong shouldered suits slimmed the rest of her. She created an hourglass figure with belts and waist details.
