Style Redux

Mint Main - 1 year ago - Kathryn Lovell

“You need to have a redesign because familiarity breeds a kind of complacency.”
Timothy White, 1952 – 2002

It’s the end of October and both the temperatures and the Dow are dropping. What’s an ever-so-stylish girl to do? Invest some time surveying your closet and reinventing pieces you already own. The most expensive items in most wardrobes are jackets. They are also the piece most fall fashion pivots around. Here are three quick ways to update a jacket for Fall ‘08.

Buttons!

Glass Button One of the fastest and easiest ways to update a jacket is to change the buttons. Add texture to something delicate with leather knots, sparkle to something basic with rhinestones or go exotic with wood or horn.

Elbow Patches

Suede Elbow Patches

The key to “English Countryside” look that showed up on runways is elbow patches. Pick up a pair at any craft or fabric store and sew them on with heavy thread.

Brooches

Brooches Sometimes, more is more. Add a handful of brooches to a lapel for modular glamour. Pick a theme (color, shape, etc.) and play with the spacing until it’s just right for you. Short on brooches, but long on mismatched earrings? Cut or bend the posts flat and super glue on a pin back.
