Hi hose, hi hose!
It’s off to work we goes!
| I would like to encourage everyone to think outside their Spanx this season when it comes to leg wear. With stockings being the au courant accessory, now’s the time to think beyond basic black. And since everyone from Target to Wolford is peddling high-fashion options, you can name your price. Take advantage of the cornucopia of tights that will be on sale the day after Thanksgiving and experiment with something new.
|
Colored
You can play it pop art style and step out of a Warhol painting in luridly colored tights. Anything goes and you’ll have maximum contrast with a black skirt. Or be dark and sophisticated with deep hues. Try eggplant with black, navy with grey and rust with brown.
|
Patterned
Crazy patterned tights abound this season! To keep from looking crazy while wearing them, pair patterned tights with a solid outfit. If you’re feeling adventurous, try patterned tights with a similarly patterned outfit- grey herringbone tights with a grey herringbone dress.
|
Texture
If all the colors and patterns flying around make you a little dizzy, go for tactile impact instead. With everything from frisky fishnets and saucy seamed stockings to cozy cable knits and rustic ribbed tights available, your legs will still command attention.

| The ‘gentle’ cycle on the washing machines in my building isn’t as gentle as I would like, so the mesh bag trick doesn’t work for me. Instead, I clean tights by dropping a pair in a large jar filled with lukewarm water and a bit of shampoo or dish soap- something that will cut the oils from all the lotions and potions we put on our legs and rinse out easily. Put the lid on the jar, shake it up and then let the soap settle out. Rinse thoroughly and hang dry. (You can wash almost all of your dainties this way, and it’s fun because you feel like you’re making martinis instead of doing laundry.)
