| Always a bridesmaid, never a bride…on the plus side, you always know, for better or worse, what you’re going to wear. As a wedding guest, just deciphering the implied dress code of the invitation can be daunting. Then you have to find something that will be comfortable, dance-able and appropriate for the time of day and season. Here are some suggestions that will let you cut a rug while the newlyweds cut the cake.

Morning  Morning weddings are, as a rule, either informal or semi-formal. (If you’re ever invited to a formal morning wedding, send a lovely gift and your regrets.) A skirt suit or dress set is a perfect match for an early service. Choose pastels in spring and jewel tones in fall.

Afternoon  Wear what you would wear to lunch at a restaurant that only takes reservations. A silk day dress can be jazzed up with bright accessories for an informal wedding. Pearls will prepare you for semi-formal and formal day weddings.

Evening  Choose the understated dress you would wear to the People’s Choice Awards, if you were nominated. A classic styled dress like this one can be worn to anything requesting cocktail, semi-formal or formal attire, depending on your jewelry. Add a fabulous wrap or fur for extra glitz. |
